CASTING MOLDS - COLOUR DE VERRE
Colour de Verre produces reusable glass-casting molds for artists and hobbyists. This company has merged the age-old art of glass casting with modern technology and contemporary design. Colour de Verre molds can be filled with glass powders, pate de verre, glass frits, or cut sheet glass. Packaged with instructions, they are easy to use and produce beautiful results.
Using Your Colour de Verre Mold:
Priming:
Mix by volume 1 part Hotline Primo Primer™ to 5 parts water. Mix thoroughly. Apply 4 to 5 thin coats of primer with a soft brush. ( Make sure to keep primer thoroughly mixed every time brush is dipped.) Allow mold to dry a few minutes between coats. Heat the unfilled mold to 500° F at a rate no faster than 500° F per hour. Let cool to room temperature.
Filling:
A label, attached to the packaging, gives the optimal weight of glass for filling the mold.
Firing:
Place mold on a kiln shelf that is elevated at least 1" in large kilns and 1/2" in small test kilns. To avoid thermal shock to the mold, heat mold no faster than 500° F per hour until 1000° F is reached. Bring the mold and its contents to full casting temperature. ( Approximately 1400° F to 1450° F works well with most frit casting.) When casting larger glass strips or cullets, higher temperatures may be required. Soak for 10 to 40 minutes and anneal for 20 to 60 minutes. Actual times depend on the size and thickness of the glass. Cool kiln without venting.
Unmolding:
After cooling, turn the mold face down and tap it against a hard surface covered with several layers of newsprint. The casting will fall out if the mold was properly primed.
Reusing the Mold:
After each firing, clean mold thoroughly with a stiff brush. Avoid breathing any dust by wearing a proper dust mask. If correctly primed and fired, a Colour de Verre mold will yield many castings.

The design for our Aralia Leaf mold was inspired by nature: The Aralia Japonicas of the American Pacific Northwest.
The Aralia Leaf casting is quite large measuring 10.5 x 8.5” (27 x 22cm), but don’t be intimidated by the Aralia Leaf’s size. It is just as simple to use as any of our smaller, embellishment molds. The finished leaves can be left flat and used as small service pieces; slumped individually into a plates or bowls; or grouped to form large, decorative platters and dramatic vessels.Mold Size: 320 x 260 x 40mm (12.5 x 10 x 1.5”).
Casting Size: 270 x 220 mm (10.5 x 8.5")
Fill Weight: 350 to 400 gramsBAMBOO CASTING MOLD by COLOUR DE VERRE
The varying lengths of the bamboo segments and the deep textures creates cast panels with real dynamics and visual interest. A second firing turns the cast panels into elegant service and decorative pieces. Choose colours that mimic nature like ambers, yellows, and greens; or classic colours like black and lacquer red.
Mold Size: 305 x 216 mm (12 x 8.5”).
Casting Size: 254 x 171 mm (10 x 6.75")
Fill Weight: 700 gramsBEACH SHELLS - MEDIUM - CASTING MOLD by COLOUR DE VERRE
This mold makes three realistic sea shells each about 2.5” long. The finished shells look great by themselves, but even better when used in combination with our other sea life-inspired mold. For example, our Sea Horse and Starfish, Beach Shells-Small, Tropical Fish, Conch, and Starfish.
The mold measures 191 x 120 x 31mm (7.5” x 4.75” x 1.25.
The fill weights are conch, 18 grams; spiral whelk, 10 grams; and scallop, 32 grams.
We suggest a cooler than usual firing temperature of about 1290-1310ºF (700-710ºC) for COE 96 and 25ºF (10ºC) hotter for COE 90.View Tropical Fish, Sea Horses, Star Fish and Shells project sheet

Prime, fill, and fire the mold and these silhouettes are ready to celebrate the season on a Christmas tree, in a window, or in an office cubicle.
For a special look, they can also be “coloured in” with frit and decorated with dichroic beads, noodles, stringers, and twisted cane. A second, cooler firing fuses these embellishments into place.CHERUB CASTING MOLD by COLOUR DE VERRE
Produce a classic cherub face that is 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Fill it to 150 grams to produce an objet d'art or paper weight. Filling with 70 grams produces pieces that can be used to embellish other artwork. Combine these with castings from our Wings design to produce imagery reminiscent of the Renaissance period. When using opalescent or richly coloured transparent frits, consider using fine mesh frit and "diluting" it with equal amounts of clear to produce castings with more richness.
The mold itself is 5.5 x 4.5 x 1.75 inches (14 x 11.5 4.5 cm).CLOUD FOREST MAGNOLIA CASTING MOLD by COLOUR DE VERRE

The Cloud Forest Magnolia was designed to be compatible with Bullseye's Short Oval Slumper, Ball Surface, and Rectangular Slumper molds.DIAMOND GLASSLINKS CASTING MOLD by COLOUR DE VERRE
This design is a set of two molds. That way, with each firing, the artist can make twelve Diamond Glasslinks™, enough Glasslinks to complete a necklace. Colour de Verre Fluted Heart Mold
Mold Dimensions: 5.5" x 4.5"
Casting Dimensions: 3.5" tall
Fill Weight: 25 - 75 gramsThe Fluted Heart was designed as a hanging ornament, but then it was discovered, a second - almost better use, a picture frame.
To create sweet ornaments, fill with 25 grams of frit and fire. Add a small ribbon to create a gift that expresses a special message for a special someone. Cast them with more frit - 70 grams - to produce a more substantial piece. Add a favorite picture and you are done. If you want to take it a step further, add a stand or magnet. Our project sheet includes a stand template and instructions.GEOMETRIC BEAD MOLD by COLOUR DE VERRE
Each firing creates three triangular beads and three square beads each measuring about 1 inch (25mm) in diameter. The beads can be strung on leather, rubber, or silk, or wire wrapped to create jewelry ranging from simple and casual to dramatic and elegant. Because of mold’s engineering, the beads almost never require any cold work - grinding or polishing. This design coordinates beautifully with the Simple Round and Small Ring Beads, and the Oval and Diamond Glasslinks. They also make great contemporary embellishments to plates, platters, and other larger pieces. The mold itself measures 4.5 x 6.5 x 1 inches (11.5 x 16.5 x 2.5 cm). The fill weight for each element is 6 grams. We suggest using MR-97 Aerosol Boron Nitride with this mold.
